The reverberations of Jordan Brand’s 2014 “Slam Dunk” Pack, an homage to Inoue Takehiko’s cult classic basketball manga, continue to echo within street culture at the very confluence of pop culture and sport. Yet, a compelling, albeit lesser-known, narrative surrounds a shelved Air Jordan XX3 collaboration, a project shrouded in secrecy for nearly two decades.

This enigma, which is the Slam Dunk x Air Jordan XX3 sample, is distinguished by its unique Kanji embroidery of Inoue Takehiko’s name across the obsidian canvas of the upper. These intricate characters are rendered in multicolor upon a textured surface.

A glossy teal finish graces the midsole, creating a dramatic counterpoint to the dark upper. Graphic accents adorn the forefoot; while the insole, a canvas in its own right, showcases illustrations directly inspired by Slam Dunk.

According to Puneet Singh, known within the community as Sole Supreme, this collaborative endeavor was initially conceived for an Asian market release between 2008 and 2009, envisioned as an expansion of the Slam Dunk universe beyond its Japanese origins. Regrettably, the project was ultimately consigned to the archives, leaving this extraordinary sample languishing in obscurity for nearly two decades.
