Since it began operating as a Nike subsidiary in 1997, Jordan Brand has built a fecund catalog of iterative designs of the Air Jordan 1, introducing new variants that explore novel materials and tooling, often on an annual basis. The culmination of this exploration late last year yielded the Jordan 1 Brooklyn Boot, a daring synthesis of the archetypal silhouette’s DNA with the robust, platform aesthetic characteristic of bootmakers such as Dr. Martens.

Following a year of market presence and the release of several colorways, Jordan Brand now unveils a low-top cut of this hybrid model, debuting with this titular “Black Pony” colorway.

About the Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn Boot “Black Pony”

The original Jordan 1 Brooklyn Boot reimagined the model as a high-cut design, but this low-top variant aligns more closely with the existing Jordan 1 Elevate Low, retaining the foundational form of the Air Jordan 1 Low.

Subtle yet significant departures from the original design are evident, however.

A metallic silver plate bearing Air Jordan branding is affixed to the toebox, ensconced in black pony hair. This tactile material engulfs the remaining paneling, including the Swoosh, eyestays, midfoot, and tongue, creating a monochromatic tableau punctuated only by the aforementioned metallic toecap, scarlet Nike Air embroidery on the tongue, and a metallic silver Jordan Wings logo at the heel.

However, the most radical departure from the silhouette’s traditional construction resides in the sole unit. The familiar rubber midsole has been supplanted by the substantial platform sole inherited from the original Brooklyn Boot, rendered in a cohesive all-black palette.

Release Details

The Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn Low “Black Pony” was released on 23 December via atmos Tokyo. Arriving in women’s sizing with an RRP of US$160, a global release is slated for early 2025 through Nike and select retailers’ brick-and-click stores.
