When the Pokémon TCG debuted all the way back in 1996, one of the standout cards in Expansion Pack—the very first set ever released—was the Venusaur card. Over the years, several reprints of this iconic card would be launched and when the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition [S8a-P] was announced for release to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon TCG in 2021, the OG Venusaur card was an easy pick to be taken into Gen 8, bringing the card to many fans who might not even have yet been alive when the original was first around.

About Venusaur (Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition [S8a-P] 002/025)

The nostalgia factor surrounding this card is unquestionably the primary driving force behind its impressive value. The illustration is almost exactly the same as that of the 1996 version which has become iconic and truly special to so many long-time Pokémon TCG enthusiasts. Adding to its appeal is the fact that although this card is the fourth version of this specific Venusaur card, it’s the first reissue since Legendary Collection, an English-only second-generation set from 2002—making it 19 years between re-releases of this card.

The card’s holofoil background has been updated to resemble those of eighth-generation cards, giving the card a modern-day visual update. The right side of the card also has a logo on it to denote that it was released in conjunction with the Pokémon TCG’s 25th anniversary. Finally, since this card was released to honor a Pokémon TCG milestone, its value receives a boost just like those of all other commemorative cards.
