The original pseudo-Legendary Pokémon, Dragonite has been a fan-favorite ever since its introduction back in Pokémon’s first generation. Over the years, there have been many impressive Pokémon TCG cards depicting the Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon. One of the clear standouts is the Dragonite V card from eighth-generation set Blue Sky Stream [S7R].

About Dragonite V (Blue Sky Stream [S7R] 074/067)

On this Super Rare (SR) card, the eye-catching illustration is by far the biggest draw. It depicts Dragonite V asleep on a cloud as a flock of Spearow and a Fearow fly below it. This emphasizes the featured Pokémon’s nature as the stereotypical “gentle giant”; the mild color scheme and somewhat whimsical art style of the illustration further bring out this trait.

The holofoil that covers the card also enhances the visual impact. It causes the white of the clouds to appear more vivid while also making it seem as though sunlight is streaming down through the clouds. The illustration also alludes to the Pokémon video games; in seventh-generation games Let’s Go, Pikachu and Let’s Go, Eevee—remakes of Gen 1’s Pokémon Yellow—wild Dragonite can be found as airborne wild encounters; this is a possible encounter in many of Kanto’s routes including those which also include wild Spearow and Fearow.

Finally, recent information gleaned via the “teraleak” involves pseudo-Legendary Pokémon such as Dragonite and their places in the lore of the Pokémon universe. At least in the short term, this could increase demand for the card as well as for other notable cards of other pseudo-Legendaries.
