New York City-based Extra Butter celebrates its exclusive US retail partnership for the launch of the “Metallic Silver” New Balance 1906A, with a pulsating ode to underground dance music and an immersive event to rejuvenate the city’s nocturnal landscape.

About the New Balance 1906A “Tech Explosion”/”Metallic Silver”

For the unacquainted, the 1906A represents the “Tech Explosion” evolution of New Balance’s 1906 series. Akin to the “Protection Pack” 2002Rs, it adopts deconstructivist elements, with materials seemingly bursting free from conventional paneling. The “Metallic Silver” colorway, unveiled in July alongside the model’s initial launch, offered a glimpse into the shoe’s avant-garde aesthetic.

Extra Butter Creative Director Bernie Gross, a seasoned DJ and dancer, has meticulously crafted the story behind the event. Recognizing the 1906A’s unconventional design language, Gross has curated a lineup of musical acts that mirror its experimental nature. NYC’s rising stars—Laila, Annabelle, and Sundaae Sauce’s Travis George—will take the stage, weaving sonic tapestries that push boundaries and defy expectations.

Gross explains, “I found a parallel to the shoe’s distinctive design which had materials literally breaking out of it’s conventional paneling, to the rise of indie DJ’s in NYC experimenting with remixes, blending genres and creating the new soundtrack for a resurging dance music scene. Dance music of the ’90s was a milestone in my life as a teen starting off as a DJ and a dancer, well before I got into the streetwear business.

“Seeing a revival of this moment amongst today’s youth makes me excited to see how music evolves and how the dance scene may even influence what is the new design code for street fashion.”

Release Details

The underground dance event takes place on Thursday, 10 October, at its 125 Orchard Street location (RSVP required). The New Balance 1906A “Metallic Silver” will first be available via New Balance’s online store on 9 October, followed by its arrival at Extra Butter on the 12th.
