Stüssy x Nike Take the Court in the Air Penny 2 “Black”
Stüssy and Nike rarely team up on a basketball sneaker. Consider this a lucky Penny.
Stüssy and Nike have partnered for more than 20 years now that started with the Air Huarache in 2000. In that timespan, their collaborative catalogue together has grown to include some high-profile Blazers, Dunks, ACGs, amongst others. Aside from the obscure Sky Force 88, the dynamic duo have hardly applied their Midas touch on a basketball sneaker. Although it seems like this Penny is finding its luck back.
They’re following up their take on Hardaway’s second signature shoe with a black-on-black outfitting. Compared to its “Cobalt” predecessor, the 1 Cent logo seems to have ‘faded to black’ as well, only visible inside the PVC gel bubble on the outsole. The oval bubble on the lateral has also been done away with, leaving for a clean topographic pattern.
The shoe features a hemp construction as seen in many Nike/Converse x Stüssy collaborations. There aren’t many branding elements in the shoe aside from the Stüssy logo on the quarter and Nike’s on the tongue and heel—in addition to the above-stated outsole. This Penny 2 will also come with an alternate two-toned lace inside a special co-branded shoebox.
There’s no release date yet but if you find yourself a lucky penny, then it might just come soon. We’ll give an update as soon as we get word!
Just for fun, check out the Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Dunk Low “Grinch”, it’s a sneaker on the extreme end of the spectrum. A huge contrast to this dignified black colorway.
