[Update 12 Jul 2024] Arriving in Sea Salt and Metallic Silver, the New Balance 1906A has been confirmed to launch on 24 July. Find them at New Balance’s brick-and-click stores and select retailers then with an RRP of US$170!
New Balance’s resurgence in the turn of the current decade owes much to the groundbreaking “Protection Pack” for the 2002R, also known as the “Refined Future” series. This release captivated retro-running fan with its unconventional, “unfinished” aesthetic. Its extended upper edges creating the illusion of a shoe still in the production process.
The legacy brand now push the boundaries further with the 1906A, the latest iteration of their quintessential 1906 tech runner series. The 1906A embraces the “late-stage” look, featuring raw, un-cut overlays on the upper that droop dramatically over the midsole.
This deconstructed approach extends to the lowermost eyelets, where the overlays spill over the base of the tongue. Even the iconic “N” logo appears unfinished, with its thick laces hanging loosely like untrimmed ribbons.
The “thrown-together” aesthetic is further amplified by a diagonally skewed label haphazardly attached to the mesh upper. A touch of vintage yellowing completes the illusion of a shoe unearthed from a forgotten archive.
Currently available at select overseas retailers, the New Balance 1906A is expected to hit New Balance’s US website soon. The official USD MSRP remains unconfirmed.
