[Update 30 Aug 2024] The adidas AE 2 has been shrouded in mystery until recently. While an early sample, now scrapped, provided a glimpse into the design, a new version has emerged, offering a more definitive look at the shoe’s futuristic aesthetic.

Sole Retriever can confirm that this latest sample showcases a knit base enhanced with TPU panels for added durability and support. Neoprene and mesh materials are utilized for the tongue and sockliner, ensuring comfort and breathability.

One of the intriguing variations between the samples is the presence of a faux carbon fiber plate on the heel of one pair. This design element, reminiscent of the AE 1, is absent from the other sample, suggesting that adidas is exploring different support options during the sampling process.

While the cushioning setup of the sole unit remains undisclosed, the rubber outsole features a grippy traction pattern, ensuring optimal performance on the court.

The adidas AE 2 is set to make its debut in 2025. Priced at $130 in men’s sizing, the AE 2 is expected to arrive in a variety of colorways, including the previously revealed Impact Orange rendition.

Anthony Edwards’ electrifying Playoff run, though ultimately cut short, cemented his repute as the upcoming face of the league. His dazzling displays of athleticism were bolstered by a key piece of equipment: his signature adidas AE 1.

Launched in December last year, the AE 1 quickly carved a niche as a top performer, propelling its popularity and securing a loyal following. This success has led to a revised release schedule for its successor.

Originally slated for December 2024, the AE 2’s debut has been pushed back to early 2025 to capitalize on the momentum of the AE 1 and its upcoming low-top releases.

A recent leak has offered a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come with the AE 2. This early iteration showcases a mid-cut silhouette that prioritizes both cutting-edge design and functionality.

The shoe boasts a dynamic aesthetic with a prominent TPU panel on the midfoot. Like its predecessor, this element features perforations with a unique design, bordering on the industrial with a resemblance to a grater or AC duct. Rubber from the outsole wraps around the sidewalls, heel, and toe. Anthony Edwards’ logo adorns the tongue tag. All of which sit atop a Boost cushioning system.

The adidas AE 2 is expected to debut in 2025 through adidas and select retailers, in men’s sizing, priced at US$130. A variety of colorways are anticipated, including the previously revealed “Impact Orange” version.
