[Update 30 Aug 2024] New information posted on the ONE PIECE TOP DECKS Facebook page has revealed that with the upcoming release of Emperors in the New World [OP-09], there’s a very real chance that this deck might disappear from the metagame entirely. This is because the new set contains a Marshall D. Teach Character card and a Black Spiral card; both cards can be used negate the effect of an opposing Leader or Character card. By using this effect on this deck’s titular Leader card, it will become impossible for this deck to win because this deck’s unique win condition is stated in the text of the card’s effect.

[Update 3 Jul 2024] Two new variants of this deck have recently emerged and begun to make significant impacts in tournament play. One variant includes the Gloriosa (Grandma Nyon) card from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] which searches for Kuja Pirates cards. The idea is to pick up and use the Love-Love Mellow card from The Seven Warlords of the Sea [ST-03] as soon as possible while also using Marguerite, another 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] card, as a blocker.

Sengoku, another 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] card, is the cornerstone of the other new variant. That variant pairs Sengoku with the 7-cost Crocodile card from Romance Dawn [OP-01]. Since that Crocodile card reduces the player’s Event card DON!! costs by one, this variant works well against decks that favor a more aggressive playstyle.

After having almost completely fallen off the map of the ONE PIECE Card Game metagame at one point, the Blue Nami deck had an impressive resurgence following the release of Wings of the Captain [OP-06]. Since that set’s international release in March 2024, this deck has consistently placed well at tournaments highlighted by Hung Phan Le’s third-place finish at the Carta Magica Online Treasure Cup in May 2024.

What’s different about the Blue Nami deck is the fact that it has an alternate win condition: the player can also win by way of a self-deckout. It’s thus a deck that rewards flexibility and knowledge of the meta.

The card which restored this deck to relevance is White Snake, an Event card from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]. That card gives an additional 1000 Power to any of the player’s Character or Leader cards. By using this card on the Nami card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03], the deck’s Leader card, opponents will likely be forced to commit to additional attacks—which could lead to resource depletion or other consequences of overcommitting. Players can then step in to take advantage accordingly.

To further assist with decking out, two other Event cards from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] are critical parts of the deck’s strategy: Sanji’s Pilaf and Gum-Gum Giant Gavel. Sanji’s Pilaf allows the player to draw two cards and two more if its Trigger effect is activated. Gum-Gum Giant Gavel, meanwhile, has the player trash a card from the hand and two from the top of the deck before adding 4000 Power to the player’s Leader card during the next battle.

The most difficult matchup for this deck is the Red Newgate deck. To counter this deck, the most advisable tactic is to hold on to multiple copies of the DEATH WINK card from Paramount War [OP-02] which counteract the Red Newgate deck’s Leader card from that same set. Careful use of the deck’s other counter cards will also be key in this matchup.

Buying all the cards in a Blue Nami deck has a total price of at least 7,790 JPY (~US$50).
