While most might know Michael Jordan to be the basketball god he is (as it should be), younger fans might not have known that His Airness once ditched the hard courts for the ball park. Jordan Brand is keen to re-introduce this, with an upcoming Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Barons” in the works.

In 1993, MJ actually retired from basketball in favor of baseball, as a tribute to his late father’s wish. Thus, he signed for the Chicago White Sox, and a year later he played for their Double-A minor league affiliate, the Birmingham Barons.

As the name of the sneaker would imply, its a shoutout to Jordan’s time with the Barons—while he didn’t quite set the baseball world alight, he did put up an impressive batting average of .202, with three homeruns and 51 batting runs.

This upcoming iteration sees the versatile AJ1 Low dressed in the Barons’ colors, utilizing White, Black, and Wolf Grey. The usual construction of the AJ1 Low sees its typical placings, with white leather adorning most of the sneaker’s upper, while Black and Wolf Grey share real estate on the overlays.
