The adidas Samba has evolved from a classic football trainer into one of the most popular silhouettes in the past few years. So much so that some sneakerheads were calling it the next Panda dunks. The explosion in popularity has led the Three Stripes to frequently restock the quintessential colors, while also collaborating with industry icons such as Ronnie Fieg of KITH and Pharrell’s Humanrace.

Now, the German sportswear giants are updating the popular silhouette, giving it a little more flair that resonates with the fashion-forward Gen-Z crowd. Cue the adidas Samba XLG.

Upon first glance, the most notable change from its OG sibling is the thickened gum midsole. Similar to how the Nike Air Jordan 1 found its new calling with the Elevate version, adidas seems to have adopted the same idea by introducing a larger sole unit to the concoction. This new sole unit is also made out of EVA material, making it a more comfortable sneaker to put on for daily use. Additionally, the Samba XLG also comes with a wider fit, giving fans more space to breathe, literally.
