Balenciaga Drops a New Rendition of the Bouncer
Yes, you read that right–they are no longer called "Defender".
Over the years, Demna Gvasalia has consistently pushed the limits with his innovative work at Balenciaga. The introduction of the Defender sneaker in early 2022 left many in awe, as the designer showcased his exceptional ability to redefine the concept of sneaker designs.
Moving ahead to 2023, the luxury house has continued to release different color variations of the pair. However, it appears that it’s now time for a slight change.
Introducing the Bouncer Screw sneaker, the latest iteration maintains a similar structural design to its predecessors, featuring an extremely rugged outsole reminiscent of a tire. Nevertheless, screws have been positioned between the gaps of the sole unit, further enhancing its exaggerated aesthetic.
Interestingly enough, previous versions of the Defender have also undergone a name change, coincidentally adopting the term “Bouncer.” However, no specific reasons have been given to explain the decision behind this renaming.
With a retail price tag of US$1550, the Balenciaga Bouncer Screw Sneaker is now available for purchase via Balenciaga and select retailers worldwide. The pair is currently only offered in the original black colorway, but we can certainly expect more to come considering the release pattern of the regular Bouncers.
