Shane Gonzales and the team behind MIDNIGHT STUDIOS redefine the fashion aesthetic of the Sunset Boulevard of old, through their Vault by Vans “Star Spangled Glamour” collection. Together, they summon the elements of timeless, classic Americana like the perfecto jacket, the everyday jeans, and the cowboy boot. A lineup that consists of the Old Skool VLT LX, Authentic Zip VLT LX, and Sk8-Hi Reissue Strap VLT LX, each model is dipped heavily into its pool of inspiration.

At the fore is the Old Skool, with a full-leather construction on the upper regaled with decorative stitching on the toebox, quarter, in addition to a looped tag placed on the ankle collar. Right behind is the Authentic seen here with a denim upper and yellowed midsole. It’s presented with rivets and zippers, chrome buttons much like its inspiration. But its highlight is easily the modular shroud over the laces making for a cohesive look. Lastly, comes the Sk8-Hi, an uncanny reflection of the grunge staple leather jacket. Dressed in the same make, it’s also equipped with zippers on the lateral along with a midfoot strap.

All three pairs come in a uniform muted colorway without much change to its original form. But to Gonzalez, it’s a perfect amalgamation of a classic clothes, classic shoes. Every pair is meant to be worn and age the same way as the pieces they were conceived with. “Vans silhouettes like the Authentic, Sk8-High, and Old Skool have a simple, everlasting design,” said Gonzales. “When designing my collection, the goal was to challenge the simplicity of these styles, while keeping them classic and instantly recognizable.”

They’ll be available from 7 April at MIDNIGHT STUDIOS’ website with prices ranging from US$130 to US$185.
