Incineroar is a Pokémon which is the subject of many memes within the Pokémon fandom for two reasons. First off, it’s known for being one of the strongest Pokémon in the video games—and this has led many Video Game Championship (VGC) players, most notably 2016 world champion and prolific Pokémon YouTuber Wolfe Glick, to have developed something of a love-hate relationship with the Fire/Dark-type Pokémon.

The second reason is indirectly linked to the first; this reason is its somewhat anthropomorphic design. This was not only a point of controversy among the fandom which was split about Incineroar having anthro elements; many fans even tied it into the point about the love-hate relationship—and the jokes and memes started pouring in before too long.

About Incineroar GX (Enhanced Expansion Pack Sun & Moon [SM1+] 060/051)

One of the standout Incineroar cards is the Incineroar GX card from Enhanced Expansion Pack Sun & Moon [SM1+]. Released in 2017, that set was designed to be an enhancement of dual set Collection Sun [SM1S] and Collection Moon [SM1M] which introduced the Pokémon TCG’s seventh generation. Every card in the set came in reverse holofoil—including the Hyper Rare (HR) cards which had that reverse holofoil layer in rainbow colors such as Incineroar GX. This reverse rainbow holofoil layer is the main reason that people are drawn to this card.

In addition, Incineroar’s status within the Pokémon fandom further contributes to demand for this card. On top of its semi-memetic status within the community, Incineroar has also made appearances in Nintendo’s crossover fighting video game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and played a major role in the seventh generation of the Pokémon anime as part of Ash’s team in the Alola region.
