Back in 1995, the Nike Air Max 95 sparked a major craze, with its iconic “Yellow Gradation” or “Neon” colorway becoming a cultural phenomenon.

Now, to celebrate the shoe’s 30th anniversary, the Swoosh brand is re-releasing this classic for the first time in five years. This guide breaks down the key differences between the new 2025 version and the 2020 reissue, helping enthusiasts know exactly what to look for.

The New 2025 Nike Air Max 95 OG “Neon”

The most significant update for the 2025 reissue is the return of the “Big Bubble” design, a detail that brings it closer to the original Air Max 1 ’86. This new version has several unique features that distinguish it from previous releases. The shoe had a surprise launch in Japan, with a wider release rumored to be coming soon, so it’s a good idea for collectors to know what they’re buying.

Key Differences Between the 2020 and 2025 Models

The boxes have a noticeable difference in their appearance. The 2020 version comes in a light, matte gray box, while the 2025 version is packaged in a darker, glossy gray box.

Tongue Logo

Although the overall design is similar, the embroidery and neon color on the tongue are distinct. The 2020 model features silver “air” embroidery and a lighter neon color, whereas the 2025 model uses gray thread for the “air” and a darker neon shade.

Upper Design

Subtle differences exist in the gradient and shoelace loops. The 2020 version has a dark gray gradient, while the 2025 version features a slightly lighter gradient and more fluorescent neon shoelace loops.

Insole Design

The insoles have several distinct features. The 2020 insole is a vibrant fluorescent yellow with two ® symbols in the Nike logo and a black liner. In contrast, the 2025 version has a more fluorescent green color, a single ® symbol in the Nike logo, and a blue liner. The font for “AIR MAX” is also noticeably thinner on the new model.

Visible Air Unit

This is where the “Big Bubble” makes a significant difference. The 2020 air unit is smaller with a smooth curve and no horizontal line. The 2025 model, however, features the larger “Big Bubble” with a horizontal line in the center, giving it that original look.

Heel

The reflector on the heel has a slightly different shade to match the upper. The 2020 model has a darker, almost gray reflector, while the 2025 model uses a lighter gray reflector.

Conclusion

This comparison should help enthusiasts and collectors easily spot the differences when searching for a pair. The return of the “Big Bubble” on the Air Max 95 has many fans excited.
