The Gholdengo ex deck’s return to the top of the Pokémon TCG metagame has encouraged much player experimentation with that deck. As of late, one build which has begun to see much success makes use of the Scizor card from Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3].

About Scizor (Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3] 116/108)

Although Scizor has two attacks, just one is of real metagame relevance. For just one Steel Energy card, Punishing Scissors deals 10 base damage as well as 50 more for each of the opposing Pokémon in play which have an Ability. This card is primarily used as a means to KO opposing wall Pokémon because their defensive capabilities are almost always the result of a specific Ability. The inclusion of this card also gives the Gholdengo ex deck an advantageous matchup against decks including many Pokémon with an Ability.

From the collector’s perspective, the version of this card which is the most coveted is the Art Rare (AR) version. The card’s image depicts Scizor standing menacingly, preparing to strike. The holofoil layer adds to the ominous vibe of the card by accentuating the mostly red background.

The English version of this card is card 205/197 from Obsidian Flames [OBF].

A copy of a Scizor (Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3] 116/108) card doesn’t cost all that much; it sells for just 590 JPY (~US$3.99).
