The release of sixth-generation Pokémon TCG set Emerald Break [XY6] in March 2015 came with an associated product: the M Rayquaza ex Mega Battle Deck [XYD]. Like Emerald Break [XY6], this set was highlighted by a card depicting Mega Rayquaza; however, the one from the Mega Battle Deck was an entirely different card from the one in the main set.

About M Rayquaza ex (M Rayquaza ex Mega Battle Deck [XYD] 006/018)

Like all cards featuring Mega-Evolved Pokémon, M Rayquaza ex has the name of its attack displayed on the illustration. The words “GARYO TENSEI”—Japanese for “Dragon Ascent”, Rayquaza’s signature attack from the video games as well as the one on this card—can be seen across the bottom-left of the illustration. The card’s illustration shows M Rayquaza ex unleashing that attack, surrounded by the immense energy that it’s generating by doing so.

Much of this card’s popularity stems from the fact that it’s Mega Rayquaza being shown—it’s one of the most popular Legendary Pokémon as well as Mega Evolutions. In addition, there’s been increased interest in cards featuring Mega-Evolved Pokémon due to the upcoming launch of Mega Brave [M1L] and Mega Symphonia [M1S] which will bring Mega Evolution back to the Pokémon TCG. For these reasons, this card’s value has seen a significant climb in recent times.
