adidas is set to revisit a pivotal chapter in their history with the return of the adidas KOBE TWO—now rebranded as the adidas Crazy 2—in 2025. This silhouette marks Kobe Bryant’s final signature model with adidas before his move to Nike, and its comeback signals a rejuvenated interest in early 2000s basketball design.

About the adidas Crazy 2 “Silver Metallic”

The renaming of the model to Crazy 2 reflects adidas’s need to avoid trademark conflicts with Nike, which now holds the rights to Bryant’s name in footwear.

Despite the change, the pair’s legacy as a design relic remains intact. The original KOBE line was known for its automotive inspiration—the first model famously drew from the Audi TT Roadster. At the same time, the sequel, KOBE TWO, pushed the envelope further with an even more abstract and futuristic look.

The reception was initially mixed during its initial release, with the public and Bryant himself expressing reservations about the bold direction. A factor that ultimately contributed to his departure from the brand.

In the status quo, however, the unconventional design language aligns with adidas Basketball’s current vision. What was once considered bizarre and divisive now stands out as a point of appeal, offering a distinct aesthetic that resonates with a new generation.

With the Kobe Bryant estate no longer attached to the product, adidas has greater freedom to experiment with storytelling and marketing around the silhouette.
