The announcement of a new Pokémon TCG rarity even beyond the coveted Special Art Rare (SAR)—Black White Rare (BWR)—to be introduced via the Reshiram ex card from White Flare [SV11W] and the Zekrom ex card from Black Bolt [SV11B] was understandably greeted with massive fanfare.

However, in an astonishing turn of events, the Reshiram ex card of BWR rarity was found to have a misprinted version just one day before the dual set’s release, causing that card to garner most of the spotlight due to that version’s scarcity and thus somewhat overshadowing its counterpart—but despite this, Zekrom ex is an impressive pull in its own right.

About Zekrom ex (Black Bolt [SV11B] 174/086)

Befitting of a card featuring the Pokémon known as the Deep Black Pokémon, this card comes in an all-black holofoil finish. The Dragon/Electric-type Legendary Pokémon is depicted in a pose showing that it’s primed for combat; it’s likely a reference to the player’s encounter with it at N’s Castle or Dragonspiral Tower in the Pokémon White and Pokémon Black 2 video games respectively.

Although this card won’t attract the same level of publicity that its counterpart will due to the misprint, this is nonetheless clearly the second-biggest chase card of Black Bolt [SV11B] and White Flare [SV11W] due to its exceptional rarity as well as its status as part of a duo alongside Reshiram (technically, a trio with Kyurem as well, but Kyurem has never been as popular as the other two and as such, didn’t receive the BWR treatment).

Release Details

The English version of this card will be out on 18 July 2025 as part of Black Bolt [BLK].

A copy of a Zekrom ex (Black Bolt [SV11B] 174/086) card sells for 61,650 JPY (~US$429).
