GameStop to Implement Purchase Limits for Pokémon TCG Products From 30 May
GameStop is introducing purchase limits on Pokémon TCG products like Destined Rivals [DRI] and the Prismatic Evolutions Binder Collection in an effort to deter scalpers and ensure these items reach genuine collectors.
In response to escalating concerns over product shortages and scalping, GameStop has announced new purchase limits on Pokémon TCG products they sell. Starting with the release of the Destined Rivals [DRI] expansion on 30 May 2025, customers will be restricted to purchasing only one of each product per release. This policy also applies to the Prismatic Evolutions Binder Collection, set to launch on 24 May. An exception is made for individual booster packs, which are limited to five per customer.
This initiative aims to ensure broader access to new releases, addressing issues where scalpers and resellers have previously monopolized stock, leaving genuine fans empty-handed. Earlier this year, GameStop discontinued all Pokémon TCG pre-orders, citing supply constraints and a desire to promote in-store purchases.
As more resellers enter the Pokémon TCG scene to scalp products, it has become increasingly difficult for genuine fans to purchase the items they’re looking for. GameStop’s new policy may be a step in the right direction to curb this issue, but whether it proves effective remains to be seen.
