It’s apt that one of the cards from EX Gear 5 [ST-21], a ONE PIECE Card Game Starter Deck themed around the iconic Gear 5 form of series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, would become a key part of several decks viable in the current metagame, as that form is Luffy’s most powerful. The card in question is Gum-Gum Mole Pistol.

About Gum-Gum Mole Pistol (EX Gear 5 Starter Deck [ST-21] ST21-017)

This Event card is highly effective for its relatively low cost of 4, being able to potentially KO an opposing Character card of 7000 Power at once. This is because when Gum-Gum Mole Pistol is played, the player has the opportunity to reduce an opposing Character card’s Power by 5000. Following this, if the player has a Character card with 6000 or more Power in play, the player can then immediately KO an opposing Character card of 2000 Power or less—including the one upon which the card’s prior effect was used.

Despite having a rarity of just Common (C), this card outvalues most other cards of the same rarity. Much of this is due to the fact that the card features Luffy in his Gear 5 form. In addition, the scene depicted on the card is one of the One Piece manga’s most memorable—taken from Luffy’s fight against Rob Lucci during the Egghead Arc.
