One of five cards released as part of the “Munch: A Retrospective” exhibition held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum from October 2018 to January 2019, this promotional Psyduck card—just like its four counterparts—has today gone on to become one of its era’s most coveted promotional cards.

About Psyduck (SM-P Promotional Cards 286/SM-P)

Just like the other promotional cards associated with the exhibition spotlighting paintings by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, this Psyduck card is based on “The Scream”, Munch’s most well-known painting. The card’s Full Art illustration thus makes use of an art style based on that of “The Scream”; Psyduck itself is also positioned in such a way as to mimic the original painting.

Adding to the card’s narrative is the fact that in its background, a Haunter and Gengar can be seen. Unlike the other four cards from the exhibition, this card is the first in the sequence and thus doesn’t have one of the other Pokémon from it in the background. The card’s attack is also named “The Scream”, alluding to the painting itself.

To obtain this Psyduck card, one had to purchase at least two booster packs from any participating Pokémon Centers or Pokémon Store from 2 November 2018; this would be the case for as long as stocks lasted. This was one of three cards which could be obtained in this way; the other two were Eevee and Rowlet. Due to the card’s unique visuals as well as its limited run, this card has accumulated much retail value in the years since its release.
