In conjunction with the opening of Pokémon Center Kyoto on 16 March 2016, Creatures Inc. released a new promotional card. The Okuge-sama and Maiko-han Pikachu card didn’t just mark the occasion of the Pokémon Center’s opening; it also brought regional charm in a way that only Pokémon Center-related cards ever have.

About Okuge-sama and Maiko-han Pikachu (XY-P Promotional Cards 221/XY-P)

The most obvious element of this card that catches one’s attention is how closely linked to Kyoto and the Kansai region of Japan it is. The male Pikachu on the left side of the illustration is dressed as a member of the aristocracy from the era when Kyoto was the capital of Japan, while the female Pikachu on the right is dressed as an apprentice geiko known as a maiko. The suffix “-han” is unique to the Kansai accent known as “Kansai-ben”; the name of the card’s first attack is also written in Kansai-ben.

Additionally, the Pokémon Center Kyoto logo can be seen on the left side of the card; this was further made relevant by how the card could be obtained: by buying at least five booster packs from Pokémon Center Kyoto from opening day for as long as stocks lasted. Since this card was directly linked to the opening of a Pokémon Center and was only available for a limited time under specific circumstances, it’s now a card sought out by many.

Release Details

This card has never had an English version released.

A copy of an Okuge-sama and Maiko-han Pikachu (XY-P Promotional Cards 221/XY-P) card sells for 30,000 JPY (~US$210).
