Defiance Vest, a Pokémon Tool card from Ancient Roar [SV4K], is often seen in the Dragapult ex and Pidgeot ex decks. While Creatures Inc. originally intended for this card to be used as a comeback mechanism, players of these decks have since found ways to maximize its effect while retaining control over the game state.

About Defiance Vest (Ancient Roar [SV4K] 062/066)

The Pokémon to which Defiance Vest is attached suffers 40 less damage when it sustains an attack from an opposing Pokémon; the damage reduction is applied after the effects of weakness and resistance. However, this effect is only activated if the player has more Prize cards remaining than the opponent does. As such, a common tactic involved when deploying this card is to intentionally surrender a Prize card to trigger its effect.

Often, a player will sacrifice an expendable single-Prize Pokémon before playing Defiance Vest because usually, the benefits obtained via Defiance Vest outweigh the cost of a Prize card and one of the player’s less important Pokémon. Cards such as Munkidori from Mask of Change [SV6] or Dusknoir from Night Wanderer [SV6a] can also be used to intentionally KO one of the player’s Pokémon, put the player behind with regard to Prize count, and cause Defiance Vest’s effect to activate.

Coming in the rarity of Uncommon (U), this card isn’t particularly notable to collectors. Virtually the entirety of its appeal relates to its gameplay-related aspects.
