In the Pokémon anime, Giovanni is closely associated with Persian, his iconic companion Pokémon and for many Pokémon fans, is the first Pokémon thought of when Giovanni’s name is mentioned. For that reason, the Team Rocket’s Meowth card depicting Persian’s pre-evolution Meowth has become one of the more sought-after cards of The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10].

About Team Rocket’s Meowth (The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10] 109/098)

This Art Rare (AR) card has a Full Art illustration that features Team Rocket’s Meowth sitting in the sunlight streaming through a window as Team Rocket leader Giovanni looks on. The card’s spectrum-like holofoil adds visual impact by making the rays of sunlight appear more realistic as they pass through the window. The card also makes use of a quirky cartoonish art style that’s unlike the grittier aesthetic of most other Team Rocket-related cards.

Adding further appeal to this card is the fact that there’s an official manga strip detailing the backstory behind this card. Recently, the PokéTimes Twitter account (one of the Pokémon franchise’s official Twitter accounts) posted three manga strips by illustrator Shimaris Yukichi to show how the events on three Full Art illustrations on cards from The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10]—Team Rocket’s Murkrow, Kangaskhan, and this card—came to be. The addition of this backstory adds further narrative depth to the card, making it even more desirable to many collectors.
