In the video games, the Hex Maniac—like most other non-player character (NPC) Trainers—is understandably easily overlooked. However, in the Pokémon TCG, the Hex Maniac card from The Best of XY [XY] ended up becoming one of the biggest hits of Gen 6’s “greatest hits” set.

About Hex Maniac (The Best of XY [XY] 181/171)

Originally released as part of Bandit Ring [XY7], this Hex Maniac card was brought back for The Best of XY [XY], the set intended to encapsulate the Pokémon TCG’s sixth generation as it transitioned into Gen 7. The card featured a Full Art illustration of the Ghost-type specialist with an utterly unhinged look on her face befitting the eerie nature of her Pokémon.

Many Full Art cards which depict a female character accumulate significant value, as has this one; however, Hex Maniac isn’t a character which fits any of the archetypes which most of the Pokémon fandom gravitates towards. Despite this, the card has indeed amassed much demand and like many other major hits from Gen 6, will continue to do so as the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the sequel to Gen 6 video games Pokémon X and Y, approaches.
