In the Pokémon video games and anime, Team Rocket have never owned any of the Legendary bird trio. However, this isn’t the case in the manga in which all three were once under Team Rocket’s control. This Team Rocket’s Moltres ex card alludes to this, depicting the Fire-type Legendary flying near Team Rocket leader Giovanni who’s standing on the balcony of his headquarters. In addition to the card’s striking Full Art illustration, it has to be mentioned that not many cards make references to the Pokémon manga. For that reason, this card can be expected to appeal to many who first got into Pokémon via the manga as well.

The SAR Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card was confirmed to be the headliner of The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10] long before its image was released. Mewtwo is perhaps the Pokémon most closely associated with Team Rocket because according to the franchise’s canonical lore, Mewtwo was created by scientists from Team Rocket. The scene depicted shows Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex levitating with its psychic powers while Giovanni looks on. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex appears primed to unleash a devastating attack capable of causing untold damage—a scene fitting for the events likely about to transpire.

Giovanni is a Ground-type specialist; one of his Pokémon in the video games is the Nidoking depicted on this card. Depicting a scene featuring Giovanni in his capacity not as Team Rocket leader but as the Viridian Gym Leader—the other title he holds—Team Rocket’s Nidoking ex is shown in combat under Giovanni’s control against an off-screen opponent. Due to the change of scenery and setting, this card brings a vibe that very few other Team Rocket’s Pokémon cards have.

Many of the lowliest Team Rocket grunts have a Zubat (or more) in their possession. What if one of them evolved all the way into Crobat? Well, this card answers that question—a Team Rocket grunt seen on the left of the card’s Full Art illustration is shown standing by as a colony of Zubat, Golbat, and Crobat surround her—presumably, mostly or even all her own. Much like the Team Rocket’s Nidoking ex card, this card goes in a direction seldom seen on any other Team Rocket card; this further jacks up the card’s general appeal.

Introduced in the Pokémon Gold and Silver video games of Gen 2, Ariana is one of four Team Rocket Executives. There’s not a whole lot to unpack as far as this card is concerned—the illustration depicts Ariana in front of a relatively plain white background. That being said, cards featuring Full Art illustrations of female characters typically tend to do well—this is even more so in instances such as this card; Ariana has been angled so as to slyly yet noticeably play up her sex appeal.

6. Team Rocket’s Giovanni

Finally, we come to the big man himself. This card’s Full Art illustration spotlights Team Rocket’s leader with the four Team Rocket Executives—Ariana, Petrel, Archer, and Proton—as well as two Team Rocket grunts in the background. It’s an image that clearly conveys the idea that ultimately, as far as Team Rocket is concerned, Giovanni is the one at the center of it all. The red and black background, meanwhile, alludes to Team Rocket’s logo and color scheme.
