A man from Vancouver was recently arrested after attempting to make mass Pokémon TCG card purchases via Facebook Marketplace with more than CA$10,000 (~US$7,000) of forged money.

The man who went by the name “Lovedeep Dhillon” on Facebook first made a mass purchase of Pokémon TCG cards worth CA$1,500 (~US$1,050) on 19 March 2025 from a seller who subsequently realized that she had been given counterfeit money. According to a statement from Victoria Police Department, the seller worked out that the money was fake due to its texture, serial numbers, and security features.

Following his first purchase, Dhillon contacted the same seller for another mass purchase; this one was ostensibly worth CA$2,700 (~US$1,900). However, this second “sale” was actually a setup; the seller had been working with police in order to apprehend Dhillon.

Following Dhillon’s arrest on 3 April, police recovered a total of CA$10,200 (~US$7,170) in counterfeit money. It is believed that there are multiple other victims who Dhillon has cheated with his forged money; his purchases with this forged money allegedly not only include Pokémon TCG cards, but electronic devices as well. Dhillon’s other Facebook Marketplace purchases are currently under police investigation.
