As the New York Knicks secure their foothold in the NBA postseason, preparations intensify for a concerted push through the Eastern Conference. Their sights are set on potential championship contention.

Integral to their ascendance has been the performance of Jalen Brunson. The All-Star recently returned to the court following a fifteen-game hiatus due to an ankle injury. In his first game back, Brunson debuted a new iteration of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro PE, a colorway inspired by the Joker.

Brunson’s “The Joke’s on You” Kobe 5 Protro PE presents a departure from his earlier Kobe 4 Protro “Natty” PE, an homage to his Villanova alma mater, where he achieved national championship victories in 2016 and 2018.

Now channeling the aesthetic of the Batman antagonist, the Flywire and synthetic upper of the Kobe 5 is enveloped in a dominant purple hue, punctuated by volt green accents on the laces, Kobe sheath logo, Swoosh, and Bryant’s signature at the heel.

Subtle inflections of burgundy red accent the Swoosh’s perimeter and line the interior. A further shade is found on the tongue tag, collar, and heel overlay, each rendered in deep forest green. Below, a white foam midsole provides the foundation, detailed with speckles at the toe, while a volt green rubber outsole grounds the design.

The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “The Joke’s on You” PE, as worn by Jalen Brunson, is slated to remain an exclusive creation for the Knicks’ star guard. Nevertheless, some PEs have seen a general release years removed, so there’s reason to stay optimistic.
