On 2 April 2025, US President Donald Trump finalized a new list of tariffs which the US would be imposing on every other country in the world. These tariffs are set to impact every facet of the global economy no matter how small—and this includes the TCG sphere.

TCG stores outside the US which sell English TCG products printed in the US are now confronted with higher expenditures as a result of the tariffs. Some have chosen to offer immediate cancellations of orders with full refunds. In the cases of orders which were below a certain amount, many of these stores have also opted to allow those orders to remain as-is without requiring buyers to pay the additional cost imposed by the tariff relevant to the country where the store in question is located. Still others have made upcoming English TCG releases store credit-exempt for a short period immediately after the relevant items are launched.

Many non-US buyers in search of English cards or products, meanwhile, have started pivoting towards those containing cards printed in Europe. Though produced in nowhere near the quantity that they are in the US, a number of TCG franchises print English cards in Europe as well as the US. Others have begun to prioritize cards and products in Japanese or even other languages such as Simplified Chinese or Korean.

Deliveries of TCG products, whether to customers or retailers, will be impacted as well. This is because, at least for the foreseeable future, the new tariffs might cause difficulties at customs and potentially lead to delivery delays. This mainly applies to products from outside the US being sent to the US or the inverse: products from the US being sent outside the US. Some retailers have also reported difficulty obtaining their expected product allocations due to their absorption of the tariff in effect in their country.

TCG grading services have been impacted as well. Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), based in California, indefinitely suspended grading submissions from outside the US on 2 April with immediate effect. As such, many from outside the US intending to have their cards graded have begun to consider options such as the UK-based Ace Grading, Beckett Grading Services (BGS), or Certified Guaranty Company (CGC); although BGS and CGC are headquartered in the US, both supply grading services from their respective centers in Germany as well.
