Nike’s Foamposite line has been making a steady comeback, with demand creeping back up—but it’s still a far cry from its peak in the early 2010s. A wave of unreleased samples has kept the conversation alive among sneakerheads, and Index Portland just added more fuel to the fire by showcasing an exclusive Nike Air Foamposite One “New York Yankees” sample.

Fresh off revealing their “Bronze Cough Drop” Foamposite samples, Index isn’t slowing down. This particular pair, a 2019 sample, stands out with a navy and white upper featuring pinstripe-inspired detailing reminiscent of the iconic “Sharpie” Foamposites. The colorway draws clear inspiration from the Bronx Bombers’ home uniforms, while light grey hits on the outsole and lace collar pay homage to their clean, stripe-free road look.

Foamposites rarely get this kind of color treatment, but the history is there. Back in 1997, Penny Hardaway famously filled in the grooves of his Foamposite Ones with a black Sharpie to comply with NBA uniform regulations. Ironically, the Yankees—an organization notorious for its strict grooming policies—have eased up over the years, while the NBA now allows just about any sneaker colorway on the court.
