Though not many might have predicted that Bug/Flying-type Pokémon Yanmega would appear on one of the standout cards of Heat Wave Arena [SV9a], that’s exactly what happened. Only once before has a Yanmega card been one of a Pokémon TCG set’s rarest and most valuable: the Super Rare Holo card from fourth-generation set Clash at the Summit [L3] way back in 2010. Now, almost 15 years later, Yanmega ex makes an appearance as a Special Art Rare (SAR) card in Heat Wave Arena [SV9a].

About Yanmega ex (Heat Wave Arena [SV9a] 085/063)

This Full Art illustration serves as the “sequel” to the same set’s Art Rare (AR) Yanma card. It’s implied that Yanma has evolved into Yanmega ex; the Ogre Darner Pokémon is implied to now be flying at a blistering speed over the same pond or lake which Yanma had been shown to be hovering over. This may also be a reference to Speed Boost, the Ability which Yanmega has in the Pokémon video games. Speed Boost increases Yanmega’s Speed stat by one stage at the end of every turn.

In addition to the card’s rarity of SAR, the fact that the card has an illustration which tells part of a story will probably draw much interest. Though not yet confirmed, it’s also been rumored that Yanmega ex will be a metagame-viable card as well and therefore attract players as well as collectors.

This card is yet to be released in English.

The price of a Yanmega ex (Heat Wave Arena [SV9a] 085/063) card currently stands at 3,000 JPY (~US$20).
