Following the recent Pokémon Day announcement about how Mega Evolution will be returning to the Pokémon TCG, the sets in which Mega Evolution will be revived have now been confirmed for release. Dual set Mega Brave [M1L] and Mega Symphonia [M1S] will drop in Japan on 1 August 2025.

About Mega Brave [M1L] / Mega Symphonia [M1S]

Mega Brave [M1L] will be headlined by a Mega Lucario ex card while Mega Symphonia [M1S] will be headlined by a Mega Gardevoir ex card. The dual set will bring back the Mega Evolution mechanic which had previously been retired by Creatures Inc. at the end of the Pokémon TCG’s sixth generation in 2016.

The return of Mega Evolution to the TCG parallels its video game comeback which will take place in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the sequel to Gen 6 main-series games Pokémon X and Y. In the video games, Mega Evolution lasted until the end of Gen 7.

The release of Mega Brave [M1L] and Mega Symphonia [M1S] will also mark the beginning of the second era of the Pokémon TCG’s ninth generation. Though no official name has been confirmed, the upcoming second era of Gen 9 has been unofficially called the “Mega Evolution Series”.

According to leaked information on Twitter, there’s also expected to be an item known as the “Premium Trainer Box MEGA” to be launched in conjunction with the set; it’s projected to contain cards from the dual set and sell for 6,350 JPY (~US$44).
