TCG Product Prices in North America Surge Following Tariffs
TCG products caught in the middle of a trade war? Welcome to 2025, folks.
In the wake of various tariffs imposed by the United States as well as retaliatory tariffs imposed against the US by the affected countries, many North American TCG retailers have recently noted that their product prices have sharply increased since the tariffs were introduced.
In a video uploaded to her YouTube channel, Danireon—the owner of a TCG store in Canada—noted that due to these new tariffs between the US and Canada, almost all her products saw price increases of over 20%. Danireon also noted that US buyers would be adversely impacted by tariffs as well because certain components of some TCG products such as Pokémon TCG Elite Trainer Boxes are manufactured in China—another of the countries against which the US has imposed tariffs.
Cardboard Richard, another Canadian TCG store owner, posted a video on his Instagram account in which he mentioned that the impact of these tariffs would undo the effects of any price drops caused by product reprints and restocks. Thus, it would be likely that whenever there are product reprints and restocks of any English TCG products, North American buyers would have to pay higher prices than buyers elsewhere.
Many TCG-adjacent items have also seen price rises. Examples of TCG-adjacent items which have experienced tariff-related price hikes include accessories such as card sleeves and deck boxes. Some pay-to-enter local tournaments in North America have also increased entry fees.
Even card grading has been impacted—though not with regard to prices. The California-based Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), the world’s leading provider of card grading services, has placed a temporary freeze on direct grading submissions from customers located in Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Mexico.
