New Balance is known for its willingness to experiment with its well-known designs. While the 1906 loafer has generated significant discussion, the company has also been quietly developing another unconventional variation. The New Balance 8040, a sandal-like adaptation of the popular 9060 sneaker, was initially revealed in April 2024. Now, an iteration known as the New Balance 8040 “Great Plains” is slated to arrive in 2025.

About the New Balance 8040 “Great Plains”

Although it shares the same sole as its 9060 predecessor, the New Balance 8040 features a radically different upper design, constructed primarily from pigskin suede with a synthetic toe overlay. Unlike the highly sought-after 1906L, the New Balance 8040 has yet to achieve the same level of consumer demand, with many color options available at discounted prices.

The New Balance 8040 “Great Plains” colorway, a recent addition, follows previous monochromatic releases in dark brown and navy. It is the third of these monochromatic color schemes.

Release Details

The New Balance 8040 “Great Plains” is scheduled for release in Spring/Summer 2025, with an RRP of US$120.
