The metagame-changing rise of the Budew card from Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] has caused the status of the Regidrago VSTAR deck to decline sharply. However, though the deck is now nowhere near the force that it once was, certain players have recently been experimenting with using the Poppy card from Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3] as a form of counterplay.

About Poppy (Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3] 138/108)

Via this Supporter card, the player gets the chance to move up to two Energy cards from any of the player’s Pokémon to another. The vast majority of cards which have a similar effect are Item cards; however, these are blocked by the effect of Budew’s Itchy Pollen attack. The Regidrago VSTAR deck is one which makes use of multiple attacks with very specific Energy requirements; the use of Poppy is a viable option to circumvent Itchy Pollen and thus proceed with setup.

Of the three versions of this card released in Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3], by far the most valuable and desired of them is the Special Art Rare (SAR) version. The card has a Full Art illustration which depicts the Steel-type specialist of Paldea’s Elite Four resting on top of her Copperajah. It’s an image which vividly captures the close relationship between Poppy and her Pokémon. Being an SAR card, it’s inherently a card which carries much value as well.
