The recent Pokémon Presents livestream on 27 February 2025—the 2025 edition of Pokémon Day—revealed that Mega Evolution will be returning to the Pokémon TCG in a coming set in 2025.

Mega Evolution was discontinued from the TCG at the end of the sixth generation—the same generation in which it was introduced. In contrast, it remained in the video games until the end of Gen 7.

The first two Mega-Evolved Pokémon cards shown were Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. It isn’t yet known what set(s) these cards will be part of.

According to the new Mega Evolution mechanic, Mega-Evolved Pokémon will surrender three Prize cards upon suffering a KO; this mimics the effect of Pokémon VMAX.
