The card’s Full Art illustration by Akira Komayama holds much appeal because it depicts Blastoise in a way that very few other cards do. Instead of its typical combative, serious stance, Blastoise is shown frolicking in the water with Piplup. It’s a side of the original Water-type Starter’s final form that’s seldom shown and one that’s sure to endear many buyers to the card.

The illustration includes an allusion to one of Blastoise & Piplup GX’s attacks. The bubbles across the front of the card are a reference to Blastoise & Piplup GX’s Bubble Launcher-GX attack. Adding to the visual effect is the distortion of the imagery as shown through the bubbles, providing a more realistic feel to it.
