At every year’s Yu-Gi-Oh TCG World Championship since 2015 (with the exception of the 2016 edition), every attendee will receive two cards which are event-exclusive reprints of existing cards. In the 2019 edition held in Berlin, one of those two cards was Monster Reborn—and today, that card has understandably become one of the most coveted pickups of its era.
About Monster Reborn (Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2019 Attendance Cards 2019-JPP02)
Monster Reborn is one of the true classics of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG; it made its debut in Vol.2—the set so named because it was the second-ever Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Core Booster—way back in 1999. Including that original version, there are 47 versions of the card in total. However, there’s no question that the standout among all of them is the edition from Worlds 2019.
Fittingly for a card with this level of exclusivity—distributed to none but those who actually were at Worlds—it comes in a rarity to match: Millennium Secret Rare. The Monster Reborn card from Worlds 2019 is one of just six Millennium Secret Rare cards which Konami has ever put out; none of them have come since this card as well as the Red-Eyes Black Dragon card distributed alongside it. This is one of the reason why this card has racked up the huge value that it has.
Additionally, 2019 was the last Worlds before the Covid-19 pandemic; the tournament wouldn’t return until 2023. As such, this was the last card exclusively for Worlds attendees for four years—adding to the lore behind it.
Gameplay-wise, this card (of course, in its less rare forms from other sets) sees use in decks such as the Maliss and Azamina decks. Despite being one of the oldest Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards, it has aged well and been able to withstand the powercreep of a quarter of a century, allowing it to remain viable in the meta to this day.
