Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon Mimikyu is undoubtedly one of the most popular of all Pokémon; it consistently ranks high in character popularity polls and has been featured on a great deal of Pokémon merchandise. After coupling that with the fan appeal of Alola Elite Four member Acerola who also appears on the card shown here, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that the Mimikyu V card from VMAX Climax [S8b] turned out to be one of the set’s biggest hits.

About Mimikyu V (VMAX Climax [S8b] 233/184)

Coming in the rarity of Character Super Rare (CSR), this card has a Full Art illustration which further establishes characterization for both Ghost-type specialist Acerola and her Pokémon featured on the card. Mimikyu V is shown in front of a television in a dark room, emphasizing the Disguise Pokémon’s mysterious nature. According to its Pokédex entries, no one has ever known what Mimikyu’s true appearance is; those who have attempted to do so have met with calamitous fates.

Acerola’s presence on the card adds to the demand for it; in addition to the value boost driven by the addition of a female character, the somewhat haunting, dark aesthetic of the illustration is a perfect fit for a Ghost-type specialist such as Acerola. The massive shadow that Mimikyu V is casting against the back wall adds a touch that rounds out the card’s imagery.
