[Pokémon TCG] Pokémon Center International Website Implements Queue System

Many fans outside Japan are surely now thinking "why didn't they do this years ago?"

The Pokémon Center’s international website recently implemented a queue system to deal with periods of high traffic. This system has already been in place on its Japanese website for years.

Starting from 30 January 2025, visitors during these high-traffic periods would be redirected to a virtual waiting room—a page to be left open without being refreshed. Once the Pokémon Center’s internal system determines that it’s the visitor’s turn to enter, the visitor would be redirected to the website.

This queue system was likely implemented following the website’s failure to cope with the flood of visitors who showed up to purchase Prismatic Evolutions [PRE] and Journey Together [JTG] products on the first day that each of them was made available and the ensuing criticism from the fandom. Many disappointed Pokémon TCG fans were left empty-handed because of the administrative difficulty in handling such demand.

The queue system is also expected to mitigate the effect of bots which are primarily used by scalpers, thus making it less likely that excessive quantities of products will be acquired in such a way.
