Notably, his 1985 debut coincided with the launch of his iconic Air Jordan 1 sneakers, a line that has persisted annually, even through his three retirements. As 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the original Air Jordan, anticipation is high for the release of the Air Jordan 40.

About the Air Jordan 40

While specifics remain under wraps for now, some details about the shoe’s creation and upcoming colorways have emerged. Expect variations inspired by Chicago’s colors, along with other classic Jordan Brand palettes, such as all-black “Blackouts”, University of North Carolina “UNC” hues, and grayscale options. Importantly, Michael Jordan himself is deeply involved in the design and development of this milestone sneaker. While his approval is always essential, his participation in this project is significantly more hands-on.

Whether the design team is drawing inspiration from past models remains to be seen. Recent Air Jordan designs have incorporated elements from shoes released 30 years prior—for instance, the Air Jordan 39 drew inspiration from the Air Jordan 9, and the Air Jordan 38 from the Air Jordan 8. It’s unclear if this trend will continue with the 40.

Release Details

The Air Jordan 40 is slated for a Fall 2025 release through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers, both online and in physical stores. Available in men’s sizes, the shoe will retail for US$200. Stay tuned for more details soon.
