[ONE PIECE Card Game] Best Deck Archetypes As of 15 January 2025
Now that most of the Championship Finals tournaments around the world have been played, here's what the top of the ONE PIECE Card Game meta looks like.
The state of the ONE PIECE Card Game metagame has seen another shift following the December 2024 release of Royal Blood [OP-10]. With the ONE PIECE Card Game Championship 2024 World Final in March 2025 approaching and with the Championship Finals tournaments around the world mostly having wrapped up, any further changes to the meta will have a significant impact on the decks and strategies which end up being most prominent at Worlds.
These deck archetypes are the ones which have recently seen the most tournament success in the current meta.
Blue Doflamingo
There’s no question that as of right now, the Blue Doflamingo deck is the deck to beat. In Japan and Asia-Pacific, it has been dominating tournaments and won Championship Finals tournaments in Singapore and Indonesia; it also finished second at Championship Finals Yokohama. While it hasn’t quite hit the same heights in the West, it has nonetheless been a tournament staple. Blue Doflamingo deck players finished second and third at Championship Finals Mexico City and Orlando respectively.
By using the deck’s Leader effect, the player can bring in a Seven Warlords of the Sea card early. This enables the player to apply early-game pressure via the deck’s titular Leader card from Romance Dawn [OP-01]. With this deck, the idea is to develop multiple offensive threats which work in tandem with the Leader card’s effect. When the powered-up Characters are rested, the player can also use them to protect the Leader card as the opponent would first have to deal with them.
This resource-efficient deck allows the development of these Character cards to be completed without using up much DON!!, giving the player a resource advantage in the mid-game and late game. It’s also possible to use the Trafalgar Law card from the Blue Donquixote Doflamingo Starter Deck [ST-17] and Jozu from Two Legends [OP-08] to easily remove an opposing Character card from the field, thus weakening the opponent’s board presence.
Purple Luffy
In recent major tournaments, this deck has placed second at Championship Finals Thailand and eighth at Championship Finals Mexico City; it also had two top-six placements at Championship Finals Orlando. After having fallen off for a short time, this deck has clearly reclaimed its place at the metagame’s top table.
The deck’s Leader effect uses up a Life card for DON!! ramping, setting up early plays of high-cost Character cards to apply pressure on the opponent and force the opponent into an early defensive approaches. This highly stable decks rarely bricks because of the Leader effect; the Life card which is used for DON!! ramping is added to the player’s hand.
Character cards from this deck which are the most advantageous plays in the early game are Mr. 2 Bon Clay (Bentham) from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] if the player is going first or Eustass Kid from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05] if the player is going second. Later on, Monkey D. Luffy from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] and Charlotte Linlin from Two Legends [OP-08] can be brought in for their highly powerful effects, as can the Gum-Gum Giant card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] which serves as a draw engine and also raises the Power level of either the deck’s Leader card from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05] or any of its Character cards by 4000.
Red Shanks
Following its victory at Championship Finals Mexico City, this deck has clearly established itself as one which has to be taken seriously in the current meta. Prior to that, the deck was used to win The Booster Box Online Treasure Cup and has also achieved solid tournament results across Japan and Asia-Pacific. Despite a somewhat inconsistent track record as of late, as has been shown, it can do some serious work when placed in the right hands.
The deck’s Leader effect is primarily intended to blunt the opponent’s aggression by reducing an opposing Leader or Character card’s Power by 1000 during that turn. This not only weakens opposing attacks; it also extends the game until the player’s win conditions are viable. Since the Red Shanks deck is one which works best in longer games, this therefore works to the deck’s advantage.
In the mid-game, it’s often helpful to bring in Benn Beckman from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] and Silvers Rayleigh from Two Legends [OP-08]; both cards have effects that automatically KO an opposing character and thus tilt the board state in the player’s favor. To finish things off, the Shanks Character card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] can be played in the late game. Boasting a whopping 12000 Power, the card also reduces every opposing Character’s Power by 1000 when it enters play.
