In the Pokémon video games, Hippowdon is best-known for summoning a sandstorm as soon as its enters combat; this is made possible by Sand Stream, Hippowdon’s Ability in the video games. While this card does allude to this trait in multiple ways, these references aren’t the only—or even the main—selling points as far as this Hippowdon card is concerned.

About Hippowdon Master Ball Mirror (Prismatic Evolutions [PRE] 053/131)

This Hippowdon card comes in a Master Ball Mirror version which is exclusive to the English translation from the newly-released English Pokémon TCG set Prismatic Evolutions [PRE]. Its original Japanese version was in Generations Start Deck Dialga ex & Lucario ex; however, that version didn’t have a Master Ball Mirror version. That makes this Hippowdon card one of the Pokémon TCG’s first-ever English-exclusive Master Ball Mirror cards; as such, demand for it can be expected to be relatively high.

Just as is the case with all other Master Ball Mirror cards, this card bears the usual Master Ball mirror imagery: the “cracked ice” holofoil as well as the Master Ball print on the card’s lower half. The card has three separate references to the Heavyweight Pokémon’s sand-summoning capabilities from the video games: the illustration which depicts Hippowdon standing atop a mass of sand which it summoned, its Sand Spray attack, and the flavor text taken from Hippowdon’s Pokédex entry from Pokémon Violet.

Release Details

This card has a Japanese version; however, its Master Ball Mirror version is only in English.

A copy of a Hippowdon Master Ball Mirror (Prismatic Evolutions [PRE] 053/131) card sells for 3,100 JPY (~US$20).
