[Pokémon TCG] Canceling Cologne (Battle Region [S9a] 063/067) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
While every card's viability is dictated by the meta to some extent, this card takes that idea to another level.
Very few Pokémon TCG cards have gone from being a key part of a specific deck to being one of a completely different one over a certain timespan. However, ever since the launch of Battle Region [S9a] in February 2022, the Canceling Cologne card from it has been such a card—and it’s perfectly understandable as to why this is the case.
About Canceling Cologne (Battle Region [S9a] 063/067)
Canceling Cologne’s effect negates the Abilities of the opponent’s Active Pokémon until the end of the player’s turn. This effect is the crux of why the deck(s) making optimal use of this card has changed over time—because the best uses of Canceling Cologne are dictated by the state of the metagame.
There was once a time when Canceling Cologne was most closely associated with the Lugia VSTAR deck. Following that, it fell out of fashion among that deck’s players but later emerged as a key part of the Chien-Pao ex deck. It’s now most commonly seen in the Regidrago VSTAR deck; some Charizard ex deck players run it as well. Certain Iron Thorns ex, Gholdengo ex, and Lost Zone Box deck variants include Canceling Cologne as well.
The version of this card which will most appeal to collectors is the mirror holofoil version which features Poké Ball prints all over it; this is not to be confused with the Poké Ball Mirror prints seen in future sets such as Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] and Terastal Festival ex [SV8a]. This is just about the only factor of note in this regard as its ordinary version doesn’t have any standout features regarding rarity, aesthetics, or anything else of the like.
