Terastallization came to the Pokémon TCG in January 2023 but the Tera Orb only first showed up in August 2024? Make it make sense.

Pokémon TCG Tera Orb Poké Ball Mirror

Terastallization, the method by which a Pokémon is able to take on a different type, was introduced in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games of the ninth generation. For Terastallization to take place, the player must first own a Tera Orb. Somewhat surprisingly, even though Terastallization was introduced to the Pokémon TCG at the beginning of Gen 9 as well, the Tera Orb didn’t make an appearance until the releases of Stellar Tera Type Starter Set Sylveon ex [SVLN] and Stellar Tera Type Starter Set Ceruledge ex [SVLS] before getting a Poké Ball Mirror reprint in Terastal Festival ex [SV8a].

About Tera Orb Poké Ball Mirror (Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] 145/187)

The name “Poké Ball Mirror” itself explains the standout feature of this version of the Tera Orb card—its mirror holofoil featuring a Poké Ball print on its lower half. Additionally, the holofoil makes use of a “cracked ice” design; that design is also visible on Master Ball Mirror cards. Poké Ball Mirror cards are rarer than their ordinary counterparts; this therefore increases collectors’ demand for the card.

Gameplay-wise, this card is a viable selection in a wide range of decks because of the prevalence of Terastallized Pokémon in the current metagame. This is because Tera Orb allows the player to take any Terastallized Pokémon card from the deck and put it in hand—an effect which somewhat mimics the Tera Orb’s video game effect of enabling the player to Terastallize the player’s Pokémon currently in combat. By using Tera Orb, the player can easily expedite the setup process by bringing crucial Pokémon into play sooner.
