[Pokémon TCG] Hisuian Goodra VSTAR (Dark Phantasma [S10a] 091/071) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
It wasn't until the Regidrago VSTAR deck emerged as the Best Deck in Format (BDIF) that Hisuian Goodra VSTAR's true potential was unlocked.
There was once a time when Hisuian Goodra VSTAR was best-known as a card which served as the centerpiece of a deck which, while never ascending to the status of a leading deck in the Pokémon TCG metagame, did have its moments from time to time. However, by now it’s clear—the role that suits Hisuian Goodra VSTAR best is as one of the “sidekicks” of the Regidrago VSTAR deck; this was made evident following the deck’s meteoric rise in mid-2024.
About Hisuian Goodra VSTAR (Dark Phantasma [S10a] 091/071)
Like the other Dragon-type Pokémon in the Regidrago VSTAR deck other than the titular Pokémon itself, Hisuian Goodra VSTAR is intended to be placed in the player’s discard pile at some point. Doing so enables Regidrago VSTAR to use its Apex Dragon attack; this is where Hisuian Goodra VSTAR comes in. Apex Dragon allows Regidrago VSTAR to attack with any attack originally from a Dragon-type Pokémon in the discard pile. Thus, if Hisuian Goodra VSTAR is in the discard pile, Regidrago VSTAR can attack with Rolling Iron which not only deals 200 damage; it also allows the attacker (in this case, Regidrago VSTAR) to sustain 80 less damage from any opposing attack on the opponent’s next turn.
Of the two versions of this card from Dark Phantasma [S10a], the more impressive pick from a collector’s standpoint is the Hyper Rare (HR) version. Like many other cards of the HR rarity, the card comes coated in rainbow holofoil. The Full Art illustration emphasizes the massive shell on the Hisuian Goodra VSTAR’s tail as it’s the Pokémon’s most well-known physical feature; it’s exclusive to the Hisuian regional form of Goodra and the entire reason why Hisuian Goodra is a Steel/Dragon-type Pokémon.
