Energy Switch is undoubtedly a true classic of the Pokémon TCG. First released all the way back in 2002 as part of second-generation set Wind from the Sea, there are today a total of 50 versions of this iconic Item card. The iteration which is the obvious standout among all of them is unquestionably the Ultra Rare (UR) card from Gen 8 set Incandescent Arcana [S11a].

About Energy Switch (Incandescent Arcana [S11a] 093/068)

Like all other cards of the UR rarity, this Energy Switch card has a gold border and background; Energy Switch is also outlined in gold. Also in the background of the card is a brilliant flash of light; the sparkles of the holofoil that covers the card add to the visual impact. All of these aesthetic elements serve to emphasize Energy Switch itself—to draw attention to a card which has been seen on countless occasions over the years but never quite like this prior to this card’s release in 2022.

The gameplay effect of Energy Switch is relatively simple—that of moving a Basic Energy card from one of the player’s Pokémon to a different one. However, don’t be fooled by that simplicity—because this card is also brutally effective when used in the Regidrago VSTAR deck (as well as a handful of less commonly-used decks). In the Regidrago VSTAR deck, Energy Switch is used to power up Regidrago VSTAR via Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and its Ability of Teal Dance which attaches a Grass Energy card to itself once per turn. Energy Switch then moves that Grass Energy card onto Regidrago VSTAR.
