[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] Abyss Dweller (Rarity Collection Premium Gold Edition RC03-JP024) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
F in the chat for all Tearlaments deck players.
As per the recently-announced upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournament card restrictions applicable to tournaments in Japan and Asia-Pacific, the only card to have received a total ban was Abyss Dweller. Prior to this update, Abyss Dweller never had any restrictions imposed upon it; however, in the context of the current metagame, it does make sense as to why Konami banned it.
About Abyss Dweller (Rarity Collection Premium Gold Edition RC03-JP024)
Many in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG community had already been expecting Abyss Dweller to receive a ban at some point because it serves as a generic Extra Deck monster which is also a lingering floodgate. Abyss Dweller blocks the opponent from activating Graveyard effects—a highly unbalanced gameplay mechanic in certain decks, especially in Rank 4 decks. This was most clearly seen via its role in the Tearlaments deck which prior to Abyss Dweller’s upcoming January 2025 ban was seen as arguably the most powerful Yu-Gi-Oh TCG deck of all time.
When going first, Abyss Dweller essentially functions as a one-sided card version of the Dimension Shifter card from Extra Pack 2019. This often puts the opponent in a position in which there is no way to come back before the game has truly even begun, making this card truly game-breaking in the meta right now.
Five versions of this card have been released since the debut of Abyss Dweller in 2013’s Extra Pack: Sword of Knights. Of these, the pick of the lot is the Collector’s Rare iteration from Rarity Collection Premium Gold Edition.
