[Pokémon TCG] Dark Patch (Dark Phantasma [S10a] 098/071) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
Ancient Box and Roaring Moon deck players be like "NOW what do we do about Energy ramping?"
The next Standard format rotation of the Pokémon TCG has now been confirmed, and one of the cards which is now found in many decks but will be rotated out of tournament play will be Dark Patch. A card first released way back in the fifth generation as part of Dark Rush [BW4] way back in 2011, it was put back into competitive play after its inclusion with the “F” regulation mark in February 2022 when it was made part of the Darkrai VSTAR Starter Set [SLD].
About Dark Patch (Dark Phantasma [S10a] 098/071)
The effect of Dark Patch is simple yet highly effective. When it’s played, the player attaches a Dark Energy card to one of the player’s Dark-type Benched Pokémon. This greatly assists with the Energy-ramping capabilities of the Dark-type Pokémon-centric deck that Dark Patch is in. Today, the decks which most commonly make use of Dark Patch are the Ancient Box, Roaring Moon, and Roaring Moon/Dudunsparce decks.
For collectors, the most coveted version of this card is undoubtedly the Ultra Rare (UR) iteration that came as part of Dark Phantasma [S10a]. It not only has the gold-colored background and border that typify cards of the UR rarity; this same gold holofoil also outlines the Dark Patch itself—almost as if to call attention to the potency of the card.
